Hi Harmonizers

Hope you have enjoyed the beautiful weather.  We needed this.

Some fun news for you all.

Next Thursday we will be treated to a sing-a-long with our “artist in residence” Ruthie Seidner, Master of the folk song.  We will begin with short warm-ups followed by a sing-a-long directed by Ruthie and her guitar.  I’m including the words in these notes so that everyone can sing along at home.  Hope you enjoy.

Song no. 1

If I had wings no one would ask me should I fly

The bird sings, no one asks why

I can see in myself wings as I feel them

If you see something else, keep your thoughts to yourself

I’ll fly free then

Yesterday’s eyes see their colors fading away

They see their sun turning to grey

You can’t share in a dream, that you don’t believe in

If you say that you see and pretend to be me

You won’t be then

How can you ask if I’m happy goin’ my way?

You might as well ask a child at play!

There’s no need to discuss or understand me

I won’t ask of myself to become something else

I’ll just be me!

If I had wings no one would ask me should I fly

The bird sings, and no one asks her why

I can see in myself wings as I feel them

If you see something else, keep your thoughts to yourself

I’ll fly free then

2nd song

If I had a hammer, I’d hammer in the morning

I’d hammer in the evening, all over this land

I’d hammer out danger, I’d hammer out a warning

I’d hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters all over this land

If I had a bell, I’d ring it in the morning

I’d ring it in the evening, all over this land

I’d ring it in danger, I’d ring out a warning

I’d ring in love between my brothers and my sisters all over this land

If I had a song, I’d sing it in the morning

I’d sing it in the evening, all over this land

I’d sing it in danger, I’d sing out a warning

I’d sing in love between my brothers and my sisters all over this land

Well I got a hammer and I got a bell

And I got a song to sing all over this land

It’s the hammer of justice, it’s the bell of freedom

It’s a song about love between my brothers and my sisters all over this land

3rd song

To everything (turn, turn, turn)

There is a season (turn, turn, turn)

And a time to every purpose, under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die

A time to plant, a time to reap

A time to kill, a time to heal

A time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything (turn, turn, turn)

There is a season (turn, turn, turn)

And a time to every purpose, under heaven

A time to build up, a time to break down

A time to dance, a time to mourn

A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together

To everything (turn, turn, turn)

There is a season (turn, turn, turn)

And a time to every purpose, under heaven

A time of love, a time of hate

A time of war, a time of peace

A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing

To everything (turn, turn, turn)

There is a season (turn, turn, turn)

And a time to every purpose, under heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose

A time to rend, a time to sew

A time for love, a time for hate

A time for peace, I swear it’s not too late

For those of you who missed rehearsal last week be sure to check the music practice page for “parody on Anything Goes”.  I’ve asked the chorus to come up with words for the song. The sheet music is also on the website. A fun way to express yourself.  There are now two examples plus the words, one from Dick Clark and the other from Emily.  Get busy. If you need someone to set your words to the music, let me know.

Update on recording.   We are making a gold standard recording of Lion Sleeps Tonight.  Once that has been made ( your tech team is on it) you will receive a call from your Tech Buddy (if you requested one) to walk you through each little step you need to take to make a video of yourself singing Lions along with the Master tape.

Before that happens, you may receive a call in response to the survey you filled out.  If you haven’t filled out the survey, you may receive a call just to check in.  If you would like to send me an audio recording for me to check your notes, that would be fine.  But otherwise, just work hard on the music and wait for word that the master tape is ready.

This Thursday we will continue working on It don’t mean a thing and review some of our older songs, like Ain’t misbehaving and Hooked on a feelin’.  Should be fun to refresh our memories of those pieces.  Try to sing some of them for memory.  Thats our goal for our future song.

See you Thursday.  Alice
