Once again I thought we had a good rehearsal last week. Ken is coming this Thursday for his last scheduled session with us.
After Ken’s warm up we’ll do some memory work with New Orleans. Come prepared! Then we’ll work on Circle . The rhythms are not easy.
And we’ll spend more time on Soon.
I hope to start a new song if all goes well. If not it will be the following week. Never easy to begin a new song and it’s even harder on Zoom but WHY NOT.
Haven’t forgotten Route 66 which I know didn’t score well in our survey but I want to give it a little more time. So we have lots to do this Thursday.
Don ’t forget cookbooks on my porch and box for winter scarves, Santa hats and poinsettia scarves. Check out the EBLAST with info for ordering additional cookbooks at $15 each. Everyone gets one free!
If you were at the rehearsal last week and have your baggie filled with strips , no reason to read the following paragraph. Although it might clarify things for you.
BUT If you missed the rehearsal last week I’ll try to catch you up. We are working on memorizing New Orleans but in very specific ways. It’s a method that involves memorizing by sections and not only by notes but by words as well. You need ten small strips of paper about 2” long by 1” wide. Write the number 1 on 2 of the strips, number 2 on 2 of the strips and so on. Write the word “Notes” on 5 of them and the word “words” on the other 5. Fold each strip to hide the writing and put in a ziplock bag. Now take your music to New Orleans and write a 1 above the Intro. Put a 2 on measure 13 (not the pickup) , put a 3 on the pickup to measure 21, a 4 on measure 29 and a 5 on measure 35. The goal is to memorize what happens at those numbers. Then draw a slip out of the bag and whatever it says ,you do without looking at the music. You will sing or say the words from that number to the next number and stop. Don’t worry about what note you start on. I gave out starting notes during rehearsal but too time consuming to do that in these notes. You will either sing or say the words, depending on the slip you draw. Have fun.
